Episode 8 of Boardwalk Empire, entitled Hold Me in Paradise, finds Nucky traveling to Chicago to attend the Republican National Convention; events in Atlantic City, however, distract his attention. The two worlds collide when he wields his influence at the RNC, enlisting an old acquaintance to help him with the crisis at home. Elsewhere, Arnold Rothstein is nervously preparing to give testimony in the Black Sox scandal, Gillian prompts Angela to get a job, and Van Alden is wary and uncomfortable about his wife’s decision to get an unorthodox procedure.
